Michael Morild (b. 1975) is a Danish artist known for his vibrant acrylic and mixed media works on canvas. Based in a suburb of Copenhagen, his art blends dramatic colors with a playful, almost naïve approach, often featuring characters that draw viewers in with their mysterious energy. Rarely fully abstract, his pieces are animated by a spontaneous, underground vibe, influenced by his years spent decorating cars and motorcycles in the custom scene. This unique aesthetic gives his work a distinct edge, combining raw urban inspiration with a refined artistic technique.
Though his debut as a painter came later in life, Michael has been immersed in the world of art for over thirty years. His extensive background in sourcing art materials has made him an invaluable resource for many of Denmark’s top contemporary artists. Collaborating with iconic figures like Trampedach, Birkemose, Bent Holstein, Farshad Farzankia, and Kasper Eistrup, Michael has gained unparalleled insight into how great artists create, and how they can push the boundaries of their tools. In this exchange, he has both learned from and taught these masters, solidifying his philosophy that quality in production and materials should never be compromised.
Michael’s artistic inspirations include Basquiat and Asger Jorn, both of whom influence his dynamic use of color and form. His paintings, often centered around signature characters — one of which has been affectionately nicknamed a "Morild" by his audience — invite curiosity and connection. These characters are recurring motifs in his work, adding a personal and recognizable touch to his evolving portfolio.
In addition to his original paintings, Michael is deeply involved in the production of high-quality silk screen prints. Each print is produced in strictly limited runs, and Michael’s direct involvement in the process allows him to reinterpret his own work, ensuring that every piece, whether original or reproduced, reflects his uncompromising artistic vision.
